Ventura Tree Rangers: Making Ventura Green One Tree at a Time

WANTED - tree rangers!

Tree Rangers are volunteers who want to contribute to the greening of Ventura by nurturing and caring for our City's newly planted and established trees.

WHY is this important?

  • The City plants approximately 300 new public trees each year. Twenty percent die within 3 years due to vandalism and lack of water.
  • "Greener" areas of cities have lower crime rates.
  • The health benefits of trees are well documented.
  • Two medium-sized trees produce the same amount of oxygen consumed by an adult in one year.

WILL I be trained?

Tree Rangers receive quality training in standard arboriculture, including: tree biology, identification, selection, planting, care and monitoring tree health. To become a certified Tree Ranger you must complete 9-hours of training and participate in a volunteer project.

HOW can I help?

  • Tree Rangers are the "eyes and ears" of our public trees.
  • Duties include: Inspecting parkway trees and reporting dead, unhealthy and fallen trees to City staff.
  • Providing residents with information about proper watering and care of parkway trees in front of their homes.
  • Form a core team to work on special landscape and tree projects.
  • Become a sponsor of the Tree Ranger Program.
  • Show your commitment to our environment.

THINK GLOBALLY, act locally

In an era of staffing and budget constraints, the goal of maintaining and improving the health of our urban forest requires the volunteer partnership of our citizens. Rangers provide the added capacity to help your community make a difference and reach this worthy environmental goal.
