Parks Division Master Plans
Shaping Westpark For The Future
Westpark is the city's oldest athletic and recreational complex - built in 1950. It is also one of the most heavily used city park facilities and was last renovated in the 1980s. The City Council approved the contract agreement with the firm of Roesling Nakamura Terada Architects on February 21, 2007.
The Management Plan is now complete. The process involved a significant amount of citizen input that lead to creative and innovative approaches for improving the park. The finished Plan includes four schemes for renovating, rehabilitating or constructing new facilities. Costs range from two to twenty million dollars. The project is included in the City’s Capital Improvement Plan for future implementation as funds become available.

In May 2007, City Council approved hiring the landscape architecture services of Katherine Spitz & Associates for improvements to the park. The proposed improvements will include suggestions for an appropriate memorial to commemorate those buried there, enhanced landscape around the park and repairs to the rock wall and parking lot. Opportunities for public comment will be provided throughout the process.
The steering committee will be reviewing final design concepts this Spring. Following that review, the project will be opened for public comment. Check back here to find out how you can participate.
Grant Park Master Plan
Situated above historical downtown Ventura, our 107-acre Grant Park is primarily open space. Through public input, the Master Plan project will identify possible ways to properly manage the site and identify future improvements. The Steering Committee has selected the firm of David Voltz Design to develop the Plan. There will be opportunities for public input throughout the project. Check back here for updates!
