Ask the Director
I have a large tree planted in the parkway in front of my home that needs to be trimmed. How does the City figure out when to trim trees and how do I contact the City to have this done?
The City's Parks Division is responsible for establishing the pruning schedules for over 20,000 street trees. The objectives for pruning street trees are to maintain safety, tree health, and enhance the appearance of Ventura's urban forest. To achieve these objectives, the City is working to get all its trees on a three-year pruning cycle.
To assist in accomplishing this, the City has been divided into 25 tree maintenance zones. Pruning is scheduled on a zone-by-zone basis. Once a zone is completed, the next trimming is scheduled in three years, unless a safety hazard is reported. If the tree presents a hazard, a crew will be dispatched within 48 hours to take care of the problem. Tree pruning requests can be phoned in to the Tree Hot Line at 667-6519.
