About the City Ventura

The City of San Buenaventura is located on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara. A Mediterranean climate offers year round comfortable weather. Ventura is well known for its beaches, parks, sport fishing, boat marina, golf courses, and other recreational facilities. There is a fine school system, including three high schools and a community college. A number of universities have offsite locations in the area. A variety of restaurants, shops and shopping centers are located throughout the City.

Ventura is a charter city incorporated in 1866 and has a population of over 100,000. With a seven member City Council elected at large, the City operates under a City Council/City Manager form of government with a work force of approximately 650 employees.

Human Resources Director
Jenny Roney was appointed as the City of Ventura's Human Resources Director on August 9, 2004.  Before joining the City of Ventura, Mrs. Roney spent 14 years as the Human Resources Director for the City of Santa Clarita.  During her private sector career, she worked for Lawry's food, Rockwell International and the May Company.

A graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Mrs. Roney also has a Masters in Public Administration from California State University at Northridge.
