Application and Selection Process

Applicants must submit a completed City application and supplemental questionnaire, if required for the specific recruitment, by the final filing date. The preferred method of application is on-line and you are highly encouraged to use this method.

How to Apply

  • Step 1 - On-Line Application:
Apply on-line at www.cityofventura.net/jobs or through the “Employment Opportunities” page of the City website. On that page, review the list of currently available jobs and determine the job(s) in which you are interested. Click on the title of the job. Click the tab marked “Apply Now.” Complete the information requested and create a password. An account will be set up for you in our employment center. Be sure to retain the password for future reference. Complete the application form. You may leave and come back to the form as necessary, using your password for return access. You may electronically attach a resume or other documents to the application. When all information is complete, hit the “Submit Application” tab. You will receive immediate notification from the City when the application is entered into our system. You may return to your account at any time to determine where you are in the recruitment process and what notices have been sent to you. All subsequent communication from the City will be electronic.

  • Step 2 - Supplemental:
These are job specific, providing additional information to the City on your knowledge, skills and abilities for a particular position. If a supplemental questionnaire is required, it must be submitted. When you use the on-line application system, the supplemental questionnaire is incorporated into the application material that you are asked to complete. The on-line system will not accept your application if the supplemental is incomplete. If you are applying with a paper application, the supplemental questionnaire must be attached, or you employment application will not be accepted.

  • Step 3 - Paper Applications:
If you are unable to use the on-line employment center you may request paper application materials by calling (805) 654-7853 during regular business hours, or via email to: recruitment@ci.ventura.ca.us.

  • If you are unable to submit your application materials electronically, you may provide it as follows:
    • FAX: (805) 648-4467
If you FAX your application, we strongly suggest that you also send the original by mail.
    • Mail/Hand-deliver to:
City of Ventura, Human Resources, Room 210, 501 Poli St.,
      P.O. Box 99, Ventura, CA 93002
    • Please note that postmarks are not accepted as meeting the final filing deadline.

Selection Process
Human Resources will review all of the application materials that you submit. Based on the knowledge skills and abilities described in these materials, we will determine who are the most qualified candidates. Only the most qualified candidates continue on in the selection process, which may consist of written exercises, panel interviews, or other testing appropriate to the job. We do not guarantee participation in the selection process to all applicants meeting the minimum qualifications.

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, if you require special assistance to learn more about specific opportunities, contact the Human Resources Department at (805) 654-7853 or the City’s TDD service at (805) 654-7766. We will make every effort to accommodate your needs.
