Emergency Medical Services
The rapid initiation of invasive procedures and administration of pre-hospital medications can often make the difference between life and death. Advanced life support is provided at the engine company level by highly trained and skilled Paramedics and EMTs.
The Ventura City Fire Department has continued to lead the way in pro-active advancements in EMS. Since 1996 the department has been committed to providing Paramedic level patient care to those in need. The departments’ Paramedics and EMTs undergo rigorous training and must maintain continuing education hours annually.
The Fire department's EMS program is overseen by a RN coordinator and a physician medical director. All training and procedures are in accordance with protocols and standard operating procedures set forth by the County of Ventura Emergency Medical Services Authority.
In an effort to serve the community better the fire department has been actively involved in the training of staff from the Ventura Harbor Patrol and San BuenaVentura Golf Course in the use of Automatic External Defribrillators. The availability of these resources will greatly enhance the delivery of prompt defibrillation in the event of cardio-pulmonary arrest.
