Environmental Procurement Standards Policies

The Purchasing and Contracts Division supports the City Council's Resolution No. 92-16 by procuring and using environmentally sound products. We encourage vendors to provide the City with recycled and environmentally sound products and services.

In support of the City's objective to foster a sustainable economy and infrastructure, the Purchasing Division requests vendors to:

  • Sell 100% post-consumer recycled paper for City office, marketing and adminsitrative use.
  • Provide janitorial and cleaning products manufactured with HDPE plastics, biodegradable materials and non-toxic chemicals.
  • Operate, whenever possible, on-site maintenance services during off-peak energy periods.
  • Offer recyclable, non-toxic electronics and Information Technology components.
  • When possible, utilize company vehicles that are compact and run on proven safe alternative fuels.
  • Use construction materials that are renewable and not hamful to the environment. Contstruction site footprints should be minimal and result in low amounts of waste.
  • Ship office products with minimal packaging, using only recyclable materials.

In accordance with City Administrative Regulations No. 03-002.9 vendors shall not provide any items to the City in performance of a contract which are tropical hardwoods or tropical hardwood products. Vendors are urged not to import, purchase, obtain or use for any purpose, any tropical hardwood or tropical hardwood product.
