Don't Blow It this 4th of July: Enjoy downtown Street Fair and fireworks at 15th Annual Independence Day Celebration at Ventura College
Celebrating Independence Day is a fun, family-oriented Ventura tradition. Visit the 4th of July Street Fair in downtown Ventura from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., featuring live entertainment and plenty of shopping at arts and crafts booths.
Enjoying an official, approved fireworks show is the safest way to celebrate the holiday.
Join your friends and neighbors at the 15th Annual Rotary Club of Ventura and Ventura College Foundation Independence Day Celebration at Ventura College Athletic Field. The gates open at 5 p.m. and the fireworks begin at 9 p.m.
Remember, personal fireworks are illegal in the city of Ventura. Facts you should know:
- "Safe and sane" fireworks are neither safe, nor sane. Fireworks and sparklers are designed to explode or throw off showers of hot sparks. Temperatures may exceed 1200ยบ F.
- In 2005, U.S. hospital emergency rooms treated an estimated 10,800 people for fireworks related injuries
- 900 U.S. home structure fires were caused by fireworks in 2004
Opted out of the 911 fee? Service providers crediting accounts for any early charges
Residents who chose the per-call option of the City of Ventura's monthly 911 fee, which funds public safety services and the emergency response communications system, may be receiving credits in the fall from service providers who may mistakenly implement the charges for all customers.
If residents have questions, they may call a recorded information hotline that answers frequently asked questions at 805-654-7590 or visit the City of Ventura's website at www.cityofventura.net.

City Manager Blog: Kids against Global Warming
Ventura City Manager Rick Cole gives immediate insight into breaking news. In his latest post, he shares the story of local teens committed to the fight against global warming, and his hope that it inspires other young residents into action.
"There's a new prime time television series on 'The Secret Life of the American Teenager' which dwells on the depressing topic of kids growing up way too quickly in ways that can't be good for themselves or our future. How encouraging that here in Ventura, some American teenagers are taking responsibility for the future of our planet.
'Kids Vs. Global Warming' is a movement launched by some amazing middle school students at Ventura Charter School of Arts and Global Education."
