This issue of Achieving Our Vision is devoted to Our Healthy and Safe Community. With summer upon us we have a number of initiatives underway to "build effective community partnerships that protect and improve the social well-being and security of all our citizens."
Please share these messages with your friends and neighbors, and have a safe and happy 4th of July.
DON’T BLOW IT this 4th of July
With the 4th of July holiday approaching, please keep in mind that all fireworks are illegal in the City of Ventura. There is a $400 fine for use or possession of fireworks, including the so-called "safe and sane" fireworks such as sparklers.
Fireworks may also cause distress in animals. The Humane Society of the U.S. recommends protecting your pets during festivities. Keep your pets in a safe, quiet place indoors and make sure they are wearing current identification.
Ventura is in the midst of an extremely long and dry fire season and we ask you to please be extra careful this holiday. Celebrate safely and legally, by enjoying official fireworks shows such as the annual display at Ventura College.

City launches CodeRED, high-speed emergency notification phone system
In May, the City of Ventura launched a high-speed geographical based telephone emergency notification system. This new system, called CodeRED, allows emergency personnel and city officials to deliver a recorded telephone notification/information message to targeted areas or the entire city at a high rate. For instance, a 20-second message can reach all 85,000 Ventura phone customers within 20 minutes.
The system is only as good as the telephone database and if your number isn't in the database, you will not be called. Including additional phone numbers such as business and cellular phones is optional, but highly recommended.
All individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, changed their phone number or address within the last year, and use a cellular phone as their primary home phone should register. People who have recently moved but kept the same phone number also need to change their address in the database.
For more information and to ensure no one is omitted, we urge all residents to register by logging onto the system by clicking on the following link: CodeRED or calling 805-658-4717.
NOTE: The information will exclusively be used for emergency notification purposes and will not be shared.
4th of July Street Festival
The 4th of July Street Festival will be held on Wednesday, July 4th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is FREE. Thousands of people attend our festival, enjoying live entertainment, shopping for quality arts and crafts and sampling a variety of food throughout the nine blocks of the Downtown Cultural District of Ventura.
