City Council Votes for Tougher Graffiti Penalties

On Monday, October 15, 2007 the Ventura City Council unanimously voted to strengthen a city law to increase civil citations to $1,000 for taggers and their parents. This would help hold parents and guardians financially accountable for cleanup and other costs.

Vote Tuesday November 6There is a much easier and more convenient way for busy registered voters to cast their ballots than going to the polls. Join the many Ventura residents who already vote by mail by registering as a "Permanent Absentee Voter" by Tuesday, October 30. Please stop by the City Clerk's Office at 501 Poli Street - Room 204 or call 658-4787 to request an Absentee Voter Application be sent to you.

The election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, to elect three members of the City Council, two members of the Board of Education of the Ventura Unified School District, and on Measure C7 regarding the City's "Telephone Tax" and "Cable Television Tax."

Daylong Historic Preservation Workshop, October 23 at Ventura City Hall

November 1 Forum to Address Connection between Land Use and Health

Several local groups are hosting a community forum to explore the impact that land use planning has on as chronic diseases, obesity and other health problems. The forum, titled "Building Bridges: Integrating the Public's Health into Land Use Planning," will take place on Thursday, November 1, 2007 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Courtyard by Marriott in Oxnard, 600 E. Esplanade Drive. The keynote speaker will be Lynn Jacobs, Director, California Department of Housing and Community Development.
