Council Votes to Speed up Planning Process

On Monday, October 8, 2007 the Ventura City Council voted to direct City staff to report on the feasibility of implementing the policy consideration regarding a more efficient and clear application process that maintains the City's high development standards.

Fire Prevention Week, October 7 - 13

This week is national Fire Prevention week, and the Ventura City Fire Department is joining forces with the non-profit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to remind Ventura residents to "Practice Your Escape Plan."

We encourage you and other residents to visit your local Ventura City Fire Station this Saturday, October 13, 10am to 3pm for more information on how to "Practice Your Escape Plan."

View City's Budget 101 Video

To increase community awareness of our budget challenges, the City of Ventura's Civic Engagement Division produced a ten-minute video called "Budget 101." The video gives a quick "run through" of vital municipal budget issues, funding sources, expenses, and challenges.

October 22, Last Day to Register to Vote!

City of Ventura residents have until Monday, October 22, to register to vote. The election will be held on Tuesday, November 6, to elect three members of the City Council, two members of the Board of Education of the Ventura Unified School District, and on Measure C7 regarding the City's "Telephone Tax" and "Cable Television Tax."

Also, if you have moved, changed your last name, would like to change political parties, or would like to vote by mail permanently, you need to re-register to vote. Please stop by the City Clerk's Office at 501 Poli Street - Rm 204 or call 658-4787 to request a Voter Registration Form be mailed to you.

Wal-Mart (Again)

City Manager Rick Cole gives immediate insight into breaking news. His latest post discusses the efforts by Wal-Mart to go green and their intentions in Ventura.

"With a Council election going on, while Walmart is silent, many other voices in the community are not. Some are on the warpath, vowing to "stop Walmart." Others are critical that the City has not warmly embraced the sales tax revenue that a new Walmart would generate."
