Albinger Museum
In January 1989 the City opened the Albinger Archaeological Museum, home to many of the 30,000 artifacts discovered at this site during excavations that took place in the 1970s. In addition to the artifacts on display, the grounds of the Albinger contain a number of important archaeological features that include the foundations of the “lost mission church,” an ancient earth oven and the mission water filtration building, the oldest standing structure in Ventura County. The area surrounding the Albinger Museum, designated the Ventura Mission Historic District, was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

Olivas Adobe
The Olivas Adobe Historical Park is operated by the City of Ventura
and serviced by the Olivas Adobe Historical Interpreters. It is on the
National Register of Historic Places and is State Historical Landmark
No. 115. The Adobe represents a superb example of a large home from the
Rancho Period prior to California statehood in 1849. The home was started
in 1847 and completed in 1849 through the efforts of local Chumash people,
and occupied by Don Raymundo, his wife Teodora, and their 21 children
until 1899. Ultimately, the City of Ventura received the adobe and a
large land parcel from the Max Fleischman Foundation that included 450
acres that extended from the Olivas Adobe to the ocean, where the Olivas
Golf Course, the San Buenaventura Water Reclamation Facility and the
Harbor are now located. The Park includes exhibits, extensive gardens,
and the restored adobe buildings.
The operation of the Olivas Adobe relies heavily on the Historical Interpreters,
volunteers who provide special programs and events at the site, conduct
tours and provide public outreach. Their efforts and financial contributions
have resulted in the addition of authentic period furnishings for the
Olivas Adobe interiors.
Services provided at the Olivas Adobe Historical Park include Educational
Outreach Programs and Historic Park Tours. The Olivas Adobe has also
been the ideal site for weddings, receptions and fiestas since 1849,
and the City continues to host many special events there year round.

Oretga Adobe
In 1857 Emigdio Ortega purchased the land that would be home to the Ortega family for more than forty years. Emigdio died in 1896 and in the following year his son, Emilio used the home to start his “Pioneer Ortega Chili” business, believed to be the first commercial food operation of its kind in California. Today, the Ortega Adobe stands as the sole witness of an earlier era: a time when Main Street reflected the Spanish/Mexican heritage of its early residents and was lined with adobe houses and businesses. The City of Ventura acquired the property in 1921
