Gold Rush!
For 3rd and 4th grade
Cost

Did you know that the first gold discovered in California was found right here in Ventura County? This is just one of the amazing facts that Gold Pan Pete, and Strike It Rich Sam, our own costumed '49ers, will share with your class when they bring the discovery of gold right into your classroom. Lively gold tales will tell what life was like in this exciting time. Your students will learn where the first find was, how it was mined, and the impact gold had on Ventura County and California. This 75-minute program includes:
  • Gold mining games, songs & stories around the campfire with costumed characters
  • A short slide illustrated story about the history of gold mining in California
  • Mining camp general store activities
  • Panning for gold activity

Ventura County Agriculture
For 3rd through 6th grade

Cost:
$2.50 per child with a $75 minimum. Non-resident fee please add $15 per program.

Let It Grow, Let It Grow, Let It Grow! When is water more valuable than gold? When it's used to build the agricultural business on which Ventura County was founded. Follow the history of agriculture and farming in Ventura County, from the Mission period to the giant agricultural business of today. From apricots to lima beans, your students will discover the great importance agriculture has played in their own community.This one-hour program will include:

     
  • A slide presentation tracing the history of agriculture in Ventura County
  • "It's the Pits" matching game and Ag-bingo
  • Hands-on examples of products grown here, insects, & "mystery objects"
