Nature and History Education Programs
For School Classes - Preschool to 6th Grade
Program Overview
The City of Ventura's Interpretive Outreach Program
provides preschool through 6th grade students with high quality interactive
education programs in the classroom and at local parks, beaches and historic
sites. The Interpretive Outreach Programs help students appreciate our natural
and cultural history and encourage a lifelong respect and caring for the
environment. Whether students participate in a natural history field trip,
a classroom presentation, or step back in time during one of our living
history programs, they will be involved and enthusiastic as each child learns
through direct experience.
Staff
Our staff of approximately twenty interpreters
consists of experienced educators who bring with them various specialties
in the natural sciences, marine biology, California history, anthropology,
archaeology, environmental studies and years of outdoor or classroom teaching
experience. Our programs correspond with the California Science Framework
and History-Social Science curriculum.
The 2008-2009 school year marks the 26th year of the City's Interpretive Outreach Program. Each year, approximately 16,000 participants attend the 29 different programs we offer. We look forward to seeing you this coming year.
