American Red Cross Swim Lesson
-Level Descriptions
Determining the correct level for your child from the start is essential because it's not always possible to transfer incorrectly placed children later from one level to another. Read the following class descriptions carefully and feel free to call us at 654.7511 if you need help selecting what's right for your child.
Level 1-Preschooler
Water Adjustment
3-5 years
For children new to swim lessons or with a fear of water, this class focuses on water adjustment, blowing bubbles, assisted floating and arm/leg action.
Level 2-Primary Skills
4 years +
This level marks the start of basic swimming skills. Class focuses on retrieving objects under water, floating on back/front unassisted, freestyle introduction and water safety skills.
Level 3-Stroke Readiness
5 years +
Child must be able to swim freestyle at least 10 yards unassisted to enroll. Level 3 focuses on coordinating freestyle and backstroke, swimming distances of up to 15 yards, and beginning diving skills.
*Level 4-Stroke Development
8 years +
Child must be able to swim freestyle 20 yards without stopping to enroll. Class introduces breaststroke and butterfly, refines freestyle and backstroke technique, works on diving skills and increases swimming endurance.
*Level 5-Stroke Refinement
8 years +
Child must be able to swim freestyle breathing to the side at least 50 yards without stopping. Class refines four competitive stroke techniques, introduces sidestroke and works on surface dives.
*Level 6-Fitness Swimmer
8 years +
Child must be able to swim 100 yards comfortably to enroll. Level 6 focuses on stroke techniques while increasing efficiency, power and endurance and introduces competitive turns and race starts.
Parent & Child (PAC)
6 months-4 years
An adult must accompany child in the water. Parents will receive guided instruction on ways to help their child become comfortable in the water, emphasizing safety and relaxation techniques. Children not yet potty trained must wear swim diapers.
Recreational Swim
Active in-water supervision is required at all times for non-swimmers and children under 10. Only Coast Guard-approved flotation devices are allowed in the pools; all swimmers must wear appropriate swim attire. Children not potty-trained must wear swim diapers. All Ages. Toddler Time
0-5 years with Adult
Get your little one adjusted to the water in this safe, fun environment. Adults must accompany child in pool; children not potty trained must wear swim diapers. See pool schedule for holiday hours and fees. In children's water playground only.
Lap Swim
Adult $5/visit or Splash Pass options
Add variety to your workouts and swim your way to a healthier lifestyle! Kick boards, hand paddles and pull buoys available. See pool schedule for holiday hours and Splash Pass fees.
Water Exercise
13 years-Adult $7/visit or Splash Pass options
Work out in waist-to-chest-deep water on the major components of fitness: aerobic training, muscular strength, endurance and flexibility. All fitness and ability levels welcome; no swimming skills required.. Pool temperature 82 to 84 degrees. Purchase Water Exercise Splash Pass on site; not available online. Water Polo Open Scrimmage
Adults $5/visit or Splash Pass options
Get your friends together and drop in for an open-scrimmage game. This is not a refereed game or a class. Participants should know the rules and how to play. Game ball and caps provided.
Senior Swim Program
62+ years $3/visit or Splash Pass options
Swim laps, water walk or use this time to relax and swim around in the recreational pool; temperature is 82-84 degrees. Kick boards, hand paddles & pull buoys are available.
Fit & Fun 4 Kids
8-13 years $40
Get fit and lose weight while building strength, endurance and confidence in a variety of fun water games and activities!
Home School Swim Program
8-13 years $40
This program is designed for kids who are home schooled and would like a P.E. class with beginners instructed at levels 2 & 3 and intermediates at levels 4-6; please see level descriptions on swim lesson page.
Diving
9 years-Adult $50
This class introduces fundamentals of competitive springboard diving to beginners while helping intermediate divers refine their skills. Must be able to swim 25 yards comfortably and dive from pool deck.
Competitive Stroke Instruction
9-13 years $40
Improve stroke technique in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly while learning competitive starts, turns and finishes. Participants should be comfortable in deep water and able to swim 50 yards comfortably.
Swim Team Preparation
9-16 years $35
Improve stroke technique in freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly and learn competitive starts, turns and finishes while receiving a structured swim workout. Participants are grouped by age and ability, and must be able to swim 100 yards comfortably.
Water Polo
9-17 years $40
Work on conditioning, passing, catching, shooting and goal keeping. Participants are grouped by age and ability, and must be able to swim 100 yards comfortably.
Synchronized Swim
9 years-Adult $35
Use rhythmical activities of sculling, breaststroke, front & back crawl, elementary backstroke and sidestroke to perform synchronized choreography to music. Must be able to swim 50 yards comfortably and tread water for 1 minute.
Junior Lifeguard Academy
10-15 years $150
Keep your child active over fall & winter breaks with this academy that covers water safety, CPR and basic first aid skills while teaching the roles and responsibilities of a Lifeguard. Child must be able to swim 100 yards comfortably. Fee includes t-shirt and free admission to Recreational Swim during class dates. Bring swimsuit, clothes to play in, sunscreen, water and snacks. Participants may be dropped off at 8 am, stay through recreational swim, and must be picked up by 4 pm.
Adult Learn to Swim
12 years-Adult $40
Learn or improve your swimming ability under the guidance of a qualified instructor. Work on personal goals & at your own rate.
American Red Cross Safety Classes
Water Safety Instructor – Fall Break
16 years-Adult $150
Successful completion of this course will certify you to teach all levels of American Red Cross progressive swimming lessons. Included in the course is Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT). You must attend all class sessions and successfully complete all assignments and tests to obtain certifi- cation. Prerequisite: 16 years of age by first class day, 200-yard continuous swim and demonstration of 4 competitive strokes, sidestroke and elementary backstroke.
Private Swim Lessons
All ages $120
Qualified instructors work one-on-one with participants to ensure that they achieve individual swimming goals; classes are specifically tailored to meet the needs of the participant.
Lifeguard Training
15 years-Adult $150
This American Red Cross course teaches first aid, water rescue skills, and CPR for the Professional Rescuer for lifeguards. Successful participation in all class sessions is required. Prerequisites: 15 years of age by first class day; 500-yard continuous swim; 20 yd swim with 10-lb object.
Buenaventura Swim Club
This year-round, age-group-competitive swimming team offers instruction, training and competition. Minimum qualification is the ability to swim 25 yards freestyle and backstroke. Ventura County Masters
