Don't Blow It this 4th of July
Fireworks are illegal in the City of Ventura
Celebrating Independence Day is a fun, family-oriented Ventura tradition.
And enjoying an official, approved fireworks show is the safest way to celebrate the holiday.
Things You Should Know
- $400 fine for use OR possession of fireworks; possession of larger amounts of fireworks may result in a felony charge
- Fireworks purchased over the Internet are illegal (and not just in Ventura but throughout the state)
- "Safe and sane" fireworks are neither safe, nor sane. Fireworks and sparklers are designed to explode or throw off showers of hot sparks. Temperatures may exceed 1200º F.
- In 2005, U.S. hospital emergency rooms treated an estimated 10,800 people for fireworks related injuries
- The Humane Society of the U.S. recommends protecting your pets during the festivities:
- resist taking your pet to the fireworks display; most animals don't enjoy the noise
- don't leave your pet in the car, even with windows partially opened
- keep your pets in a safe, quiet place indoors & make sure they are wearing current identification
- 900 U.S. home structure fires were caused by fireworks in 2004
